Generalized Query Answering in Disjunctive Deductive Databases: Procedural and Non-Monotonic Aspects

چکیده

Generalized queries are deened as sets of clauses in implication form. They cover several tasks of practical importance for database maintenance such as answering positive queries, computing database completions and integrity constraints checking. We address the issue of answering generalized queries under the minimal model semantics for the class of Disjunctive Deductive Databases (DDDBs). Our approach is based on having the query induce an order on the models returned by a sound and complete minimal model generating procedure. We consider answers that are true in all and those that are true in some minimal models of the theory and investigate the monotonicity properties of the diierent classes of queries and answers.

Optimizing Query Answering in Description Logics using Disjunctive Deductive Databases

Motivated by the possibilities of applying deductive database technology for efficient query answering in description logics, we present a translation operator μ that transforms non-recursive ALC ontologies into a disjunctive deductive database. Contrary to our previous work, in this paper we focus on handling negation, disjunction and existential quantifiers, which cannot be handled by deducti...

A Deductive System for Non-Monotonic Reasoning

Disjunctive Deductive Databases (DDDBs) | function-free disjunctive logic programs with negation in rule bodies allowed | have been recently recognized as a powerful tool for knowledge representation and commonsense reasoning. Much research has been spent on issues like semantics and complexity of DDDBs, but the important area of implementing DDDBs has been less addressed so far. However, a tho...

Generalized Query Answering in Disjunctive DatabasesUsing Minimal Model

Minimal models underly one of the major semantics for disjunctive theories and a substantial research eeort was directed at minimal model reasoning. In this paper we investigate the process of generalized query answering under the minimal model semantics for the class of Disjunctive Deductive Databases. We cover several classes of queries that are of practical importance for database maintenanc...

DISLOG – A Disjunctive Deductive Database Prototype

DISLOG is a system for reasoning in disjunctive deductive databases. It seeks to combine features of disjunctive logic programming, such as the support for incomplete information, with those of deductive databases, such as all–result inference capabilities. Several basic operators are provided for logical and non–monotonic reasoning: The logical consequence operator derives all logically implie...
